broccoli party - sticky green stir-fry with beef

Back in the couch again, waiting for the laundry to wash, writing up a list of things to pick up on the way home from the gym (I have a really hard life), so I thought that I would post what we're going to eat tomorrow.
It will be melon and ham with salad for tonight, a good combination to remember if you're short of time and want something light.
Apart from that, the sun is shining and I am getting really excited for the Olympics on Friday :o)

This recipe is from BBC Good Food. I hope you can find hoisin sauce and pak choi in Poland, I think specialised shops might have it. It's worth it! This is really yummy and a good intake of greens. Also interesting: the benefits of broccoli parties - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8414763.stm

Sticky green stir-fry with beef

  • 1 tbsp sunflower/vegetable oil (you can also try sesame if you like the taste of it)
  • sirloin steaks, trimmed of fat and thinly sliced
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 300g sugar snap peas
  • 4 spring onions, thickly sliced
  • 3 pak choi, cut the whole floret into quarters
  • 4 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • cashews or peanuts - optional
  • rice or noodles

  1. Decide if you want to eat this with noodles or rice and time appropriately.
  2. Heat the oil in a large wok or deep frying pan, then sizzle the beef strips for 3-4 mins until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Toss the broccoli and garlic into the wok with a splash of water, then fry over a high heat for 4-5 mins until starting to soften.
  4. Add the peas, spring onions and pak choi, then stir-fry for another 2-3 mins, then stir in the hoisin sauce and beef.
  5. Heat through quickly, adding a splash of water if it seems a little dry, it's nice to have a little sauce.
  6. Serve over rice/noodles and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
